A while back I thought what's an art studio without some old bones like Georgia Okeefe!
My brother-in-law Tom who is a hunter said that on his property deers lose their antlers and any animals that did not survive the winter their decayed bones are laying around in the spring. Tom very generously cleaned and boiled a set of bones and gathered them into a bag and took them on the train to give them to my husband to give to me. I can't even imagine the look they both got on the train LOL. In exchange I promised to customize a set of antlers with the American flag.
Since that agreement, my brother law is battling fourth stage lung cancer. You know how life is you get busy things get in the way and I never got to paint those antlers!
So we planned this weekend for a visit so I put a pair of antlers in a bag with paints and brushes and ice storm had developed on the road on the drive up and we were stuck in traffic for several hours and I decided to start painting the antlers in the car. The distraction kept me from looking out at all the accidents!
Once at his place, I put on the finishing touches with the help of my two daughters who were eager to help as well. Now this is one funky set of antlers and one very happy hunter!
After all a promise is a promise!
